Am i doing enough to burn fat efficiently without losing muscle?
Celebrating my graduation this past school year, my close friends and i completely threw out the concept of physical fitness this summer. After around a month and a half of clubbing at least twice a week (paired with excessive drinking and eating fast food on the way home usually around 3 in the morning), and a TERRIBLE sleep schedule AND diet, i mustve gaind at least 10 maybe 15 pounds ALL in the groin/love handle and thigh areas.
Now im going on a diet and have been pretty good about not eating after 8 sometimes 9 at night, and getting at least 8 hours of sleep, not to mention eating more wholesome meals and drinking plenty more water, so i guess im off to a good start. My usual workout routine is about 5 sets of benchpress followed by 30-45 minutes of auxillery work for my biceps and deltoids, or triceps and traps, alternating days ( those are the 4 muscles i want to work on the most, and chest of course.). then, i follow with about 20 minutes of jogging, at 400m intervals, usually about 5 or 6 laps. as i get older my chest is expanding and flattening out, and my deltoids are cutting out great. triceps are just kinda ehh and biceps are suckin it up. however over all my upper torso is improving. My belly, love handles, and thighs are NOT. Im not too worried seeing as i just recently finished up all my partying and drinking and bad sleep patterns for the summer, but my question is this, Assuming that:
i Get at least 8 hours of sleep a day,
i eat good meals and dont eat after around 8 each night,
i dont drink or smoke,
and i keep the steady workout schedule i listed above,
Will that be enough to burn off all the fat ive gained this summer?
If i need to incorporate more running into my workouts, will it burn my muscle too? ive heard that running too much burns lean muscle.
And should i stick to short distance pausing between laps or run the whole time non stop (i heard that starting and stopping tricks your body into burning more fat)
P.s. im big lol, 6′4, 230-240 lbs
please and thanks
