I need some suggestions on dieting and calorie intake.?
I recently decided I needed to get my diet in check and started eating very healthy foods and cut out all extras like salt, sugar, butter/margarine etc. I’ve also been walking 2 miles a day (I have bad knees so I can’t do much more) , burning about 300 calories a day, 5 days a week. With the new diet and exercise I’ve been having a hard time reaching the proper calorie intake for the day (my BMR being 1587). I’ve only been getting about 600-900 calories from the food I am eating. I’m feeling pretty good…no headaches, fatigue or moodiness. I would really like some input on how I can get my calorie intake up eating healthy foods and some good exercises I can do that are easy on the knees (please don’t suggest swimming-not really possible with the recession and all :). I also would like to know if taking in only 600-900 calories a day is still horrible for your body even if they come from nutritious foods.
Also, I eat 3 meals a day. With my schedule eating many small meals throughout the day is not really realistic. The following is a list of foods I eat on a regular basis:
Water, spinach, tomatoes, fat-free yogurt, fat-free cottage cheese, grilled chicken, lean pork, tuna, cantaloupe, strawberries, brown rice, almonds, oranges, veggie substitutes (sausage, bacon etc.), couscous, broccoli, egg whites, peas, red & black beans.
**note: I am trying to lose weight but not looking to jump from one unhealthy diet to another. I am in no way trying to starve myself or looking for a quick fix. I am just trying to live a healthy life style and would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks.
Maybe have regular yogurt and cottage cheese instead of fat-free? Or have real eggs instead of egg whites? That would give you some more calories from foods that are healthy.
Good luck with your plan, you are doing everything exactly right! I hate when people diet for a quick-fix and then go right back to eating the same old garbage after they lose a few pounds!
