Obviously one of the first steps to losing weight is a change in diet. Does this mean that you have to actually go on a specific diet such as Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig?

Possible long-term side effects of this type of pills?
I am 29 years old and I am trying to lose some 15 pounds. I know it’s not that much, but it turns out not to be so easy. I do not believe in harsh diets and "fat burning" pills, I believe in gradual lifestyle changes and sport. I exercise on regular basis (3-4 times a week), but I will never be able to lose any weight, unless I stop overeating.
I found 3 appetite control supplements, which work in a similar way. A capsule of high fiber / soft gel content is taken with water. The pill swells in the stomach, allocates space, stimulates gastric sensors so you would feel full and eat smaller portions. This regulates blood sugar levels and eventually, you lose weight.

Now, these pills are supposed to work on a more "physical" level, with no "magical" unknown fat burning ingredients etc. and they seem to me like a safe temporary solution to my overeating problem.
Now the questions:
Do you know someone, who has been using any of these pills?
Despite the safe reports / trials, can you foresee any type of side effect on the body from reduced food portions?
My friend, rather stick to fat burning workouts like p90x.
