  1. should i do this? or should i not do this?
i’ve been wanting to become a vegetarian. my mom, (of course) doesn’t want me to become one. when i told her she flipped out saying that i needed meat for nutrients and that a vegetarian wasn’t healthy, and they take all these vitamins. she also won’t let me become one because i had cancer in the year 06 and she says that a cancer patient needs all nutrients. i disagree with my mom because
    1. that was almost two years ago
    2. my immune system is fine and normal
    3. im about to turn 14
    4. i can eat whatever i want - it’s not going into her mouth
    5. it’s my decision
and i know vegetarians take alot of vitamins and pills, but i took tons of pills when i was on chemo, so i really don’t care about that. and also i’ve been looking on PETA sites, and what i see is disturbing. i really don’t want to eat meat. and it’s a problem with my mom. i mean she coks meat all the time. and i don’t even know what my dad will think. he’s a total carnivore! i know what he would say (he would probably say WTH?) and i learned about the KFC harming chickens, and milk being bad for you, and how cows are treated, and i’m just disgusted. im disgusted that i at that for so long. here’s some of the info from PETA:

Doctors and dieticians have long known that high-fat foods like dairy products contribute to obesity for a variety of reasons. First, fat is calorically dense. Gram for gram, fat has more than twice the calories of carbohydrates. That bowl of ice cream has far more calories than an equal amount of grains, beans, fruits, or vegetables. Second, our bodies store fat more readily than carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are fuel and are burned up easily. Fat, on the other hand, turns into fat and makes those who eat it fat. Also, fat doesn’t fill us up as carbohydrates do, especially complex carbohydrates and fiber.
Dairy products, which contain no fiber or complex carbohydrates at all, are about as high-fat as they come: A glass of milk is 49 percent fat; Swiss and cheddar cheeses are more than 65 percent fat; ice cream and yogurt are almost 50 percent fat; even "low-fat" milk and "nonfat" cottage cheese, which many consumers mistakenly believe to be fat-free, are more than 20 percent fat . The dairy industry tries to deceive us-labeling milk "2 percent," when, in fact, more than 30 percent of that milk’s calories come from fat, or labeling cottage cheese "non fat," when one-fifth of its calories come from fat!

In his world-famous book, Baby and Child Care, Dr. Benjamin Spock wrote, "I no longer recommend dairy products. . The essential fats that are needed for brain development are found in vegetable oils. Milk is very low in these essential fats and high in the saturated fats that encourage artery blockage and weight problems as children grow."
When you put a "milk mustache" on your lips, you are likely to add extra inches to your hips. Each year, the average American consumes almost 600 pounds of dairy products, which is about three times more dairy products than grains and almost five times more dairy than fruit. Considering all the dairy and meat being eaten, it’s no wonder that more and more Americans are fighting the battle of the bulge. In fact, 59 percent of American men and 49 percent of American women are overweight, putting them at risk for heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and early death. According to medical experts, 300,000 Americans die from weight-related illnesses every year, making fat the country’s number-two cause of preventable deaths (smoking is number one). According to researchers at Tufts University, obesity "is now of epidemic proportions in the United States" and "high-fat diets . are strongly linked" to skyrocketing obesity rates

Animals on factory farms are treated like meat, milk, and egg machines. Chickens have their sensitive beaks seared off with a hot blade, and male cattle and pigs are castrated without any painkillers. All farmed chickens, turkeys, and pigs spend their brief lives in dark and crowded warehouses, many of them so cramped that they can’t even turn around or spread a single wing. They are mired in their own waste, and the stench of ammonia fills the air. Animals raised for food are bred and drugged to grow as large as possible as quickly as possible—many are so heavy that they become crippled under their own weight and die within inches of their water supply.

Animals on factory farms do not see the sun or get a breath of fresh air until they are prodded and crammed onto trucks for a nightmarish ride to the slaughterhouse, often through weather extremes and always without food or water. Many die during transport, and others are too sick or weak to walk off the truck after they reach the slaughterhouse. The animals who survive this hellish ordeal are hung upside-down and their throats are slit, often while they’re completely conscious. Many are still alive while they are skinned, hacked into pieces, or scalded in the defeathering tanks. Learn more about the

  3. It is your decision and I think it’s better than eating meat myself. It can be extremely healthy and you don’t need meat for nutrients. Veggies are way better than meat anyway. Find another source of protein though. I agree with you 100 percent!

  4. I saw a show recently on TLC about a girl with cancer who totally changed her diet to eat just vegetables and raw foods . Not only did her cancer stop growing but it shrank!. It was cancer on her liver, a few spots. Anyway that just shows (besides all the studies) what a good diet can do for you.

Fish on the other hand is really good for you . It has a ton of vitamins . Try sticking with anything veggie and maybe fish, that is if you like fish.

It’s your body, eat what makes you feel good!

  5. Peta usually only shows videos from a few of the thousands of places where animals are raised for food. I know like 3 people who watched those videos, tried to be vegetarian, and long story short they all eat meat now. It wouldn’t hurt for you to try it, but meat does have a lot of protein you need, and livestock is meant for us to eat.
And the dairy stuff, you just need to do it in moderation, dairy isn’t the reason America is obese, America is obese because our society is based on fast food and energy drinks. The only dairy I consume is the milk in my cereal, and some cheese here and there.
