Why do I get far better results for fat loss walking looong for 2 hours to 3 hours than anaerobic sprints?

HIIT and anerobic sprinting exercise is SUCH A SCAM for fat loss. For me it does NOTHING AT ALL.

I get thebest results going for a looong slow walk for 3 hours.

WHY IS THIS?

It’s not a scam if done properly. However, most people don’t do it properly. And, even if done properly, it makes only a slight difference. You only have about ~100 grams of muscle-based glycogen in your body to replace during "afterburn", so even though that will require more energy, it’s not so much more that you’ll notice a huge difference. Exercising for fat loss is the wrong way to go about burning fat anyway. You can burn fat in your sleep or you can run 24×7 and never burn an ounce of fat if you eat too much. That makes the key to losing fat, diet…proper eating habits.

You’re probably expecting too much from HIIT. It’s is extremely difficult for those short all out burst and quite enervating overall. So, it’s probably not for you.

Here’s a quick 12 mintue HIIT workout which if much better than sprints because it works the whole body both aerobically and anerobically. –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVhhbC51_3k&feature=related . However, if you don’t want to build muscle, then just walk. All you need to do is burn calories and the way to do that is to move a lot of weight for a long time. That can be done however you prefer from walking to dancing to cycling to swimming, etc.

Check out these fat facts.

• If you consume fewer calories than you burn, you have to lose fat eventually. There are no exceptions to this fact.

• A pound of fat will yield about 3500 calories (Kcal) of energy.

• Your body will burn hundreds of calories even if you are in a coma. That’s your BMR. Go here to find out what it is –> http://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html

• An average person must run or walk about 5 miles (8 km) every day to burn one pound of fat per week AND THEIR DIET MUST ALLOW IT.

• An average person must run or walk about 350 miles (563 km) to burn 10 pounds AND THEIR DIET MUST ALLOW IT.

• An average person who consumes 500 calories per day less than they burn will lose about a pound a week with no extra time or physical effort required.

• A average person dieting with a 500 calorie/day deficit will burn 10 pounds of fat in 10 weeks. The same person running 5Km (3 miles) per day with a Zero calorie/day deficit will burn 10 pounds in 16 weeks.

•Running only burns slightly more calories than walking as long as the distance remains the same.

• It does not matter if a person runs or walks a given distance…they will burn about the same number of calories. Although running burns slightly more than walking, the distance is far more significant than the speed over which it is traveled.

• It is not necessary to do "cardio" to burn fat. "Cardio" is aerobic exercise which elevates the heart rate to 80% of max and sustains it for the purpose of cardio-vascular fitness. You can burn fat in your sleep.

• Most of the calories you consume will be spent just keeping your body temperature at 98.6F.

• It doesn’t matter how hard or how long you exercise, you will not lose any fat if you eat too much. You can always eat more calories than you can burn. When it comes to burning fat, diet always trumps exercise.

How many calories should I have a day for extreme fat loss?

I’m 13 male 5′5 and 124 pounds. I’m a healthy weight but i’m trying to lose fat around my hips and stomache and get a six pack. I’ve heard that a 1300 calorie diet is too low, so how many calories should i have for extreme fat loss? Best answer gets 10 points, thanks in advance.

You really don’t need to loose any weight at all. Just start working out and the fat around ur stomach will disappear.

If I were u , I would work out 3/4 times a week. Doing crunches, pull ups, pushups, and some weight lifting at a local gym if u don’t have any weights.

Fat loss pills suggested by my gym coach-Is it a good try?

My gym coach suggested me to take fat loss capsules. He says that it has no side effects and it gives good results. I do cardio daily and take food that are rich in nutrients and low in calories.

Is the fat loss capsule a good try to loose my extra fat?
I am 20 years old. 5 ft 2 inches with 65 kgs.
I am 20 years old. 5 ft 2 inches with 65 kgs.

I’m pretty sure thy don’t even really help and if they do it’s not very healthy. Just do it the good old fashion way, exercise. Not only is it healthier but you’ll also feel better when you start shedding the extra fat, because you’ll feel like you really earned it.

Good luck!
(p.s that’s one horrible gym teacher :/)

If your goal is fat loss, should you lift weights as heavy as you would if you were trying to gain muscle?

What Im trying to say is, that if your goal is only fat loss, aside from doing lots of cardio, should you lift weights with the same intensity you would as if your goal was building muscle? Or should you go for less weight/more reps?

Cardio burns excess stored fat. Do cardio first then lift.
This keeps the heart rate elevated for a longer period of time.
Try reps of 12-8-4 adding 10 or 20 pounds between sets.
Do one exercise rep then an opposing exercise.
Something like bench press using the pectorals then rows using the back muscles.
Switch them back and forth only taking the time to change the weights or pins.
You should really be getting tired at this point. Now you are seriously burning some calories.
Switch muscle groups and do upper body one day and lower body and core the next. Cardio everyday.
One day of total rest with maybe a brisk walk, ride, or run to stretch out.
Good luck.

Which types of exercises for fat loss but not muscle gain?

Please dont say stuff like climbing stairs because I know that will make you gain muscle.
I want to exercise for a smooth, natural, healthy looking body.
Fat loss and no muscle gain please!

Fat burn is greater when exercise intensity is high. However, jogging for long periods of time will not help you lose weight, just gain endurance because it breaks down your muscle and muscle burns fat. But you don’t want to be bulky, I am guessing you want to be lean. High intense cardio is your best bet. Try jump roping, intervals or sprint/jog, or even take a cardio class. Also, you need to drink lots of water!! And eat foods in low fat and low carb.

Why is it that people buy into gimmicks on informercials for fat loss?

You would be suprised how well crunches work if done correctly or an abdominal wheel for $12.95. I guess its all in the glitz and marketing.

A lot of people equate weight loss with fat loss. When you lose more than 2 pounds a week your not just losing fat but muscle.

My point is if you are consistant and patient, then combine proper eating habits( notice I didn’t say diet, its a lifestyle change) and exercise that is the proper way to lose fat, get a six pack, and shape your muscles.

Most people that are overweight don’t have that much muscle to loose. So in their case it is beneficial to loose a lot of weight and then build up their muscles. But people buy into these gimmicks because they want an easy way to loose weight. Going to the gym every other day is very difficult for certain people. Also changing their whole lifestyle is not an easy task. That is why certain people go to the doctor to have surgeries to get rid of the fat and then they gain it all back. Basically they want results with no work.

Does having protein shake will help fat loss and add muscle mass?

Im new in weightlifting and im planning to take protein shake cause it seems that i cant always follow my diet.
do you think its ok to take protein shake? does it add the muscle mass and help fat loss?
cause im somewhat fat im afraid taking protein shakes will add more fat.

no don’t drink it, it isn’t pure protein and is loaded with a bunch of other trash. Go natural and get your protein straight from the source.

If you want to lose fat, eat healthy (veggies, grilled white meats like chicken and fish, nuts and some fruits), avoid greasy foods, pops and juices at all costs. Stick to water and milk.

Along with a healthy diet, loads of cardiovascular exercises will help you shed fat, so start running, jogging, biking, swimming, or whatever floats your boat. Just get that heartbeat up and sweat it out.

All the best.

What is the best 12-week diet plan for fat loss?

As the weather gets warmer we become more self-conscious about our weight. Since summer is right around the corner it is time to get our fat loss diet in check.

What is the best 12-week diet plan for fat loss?

What is a reasonable amount of weight to lose in 12 weeks?

What are some important tips for someone who wants to lose the fat, but maintain their muscle gains?

Of course, there are a huge number of weight loss blogs to choose from. There are a number of medically supervised and very expensive calorie restricted programs costing thousands of dollars, however, that doesn’t make these programs effective. According to Gina Kolata, who did extensive research on the topic, the most popular diets are also ineffective for the vast majority of people over an extended period of time. If you embark on a 12-week diet, you will lose weight for the first 12-weeks and then re-gain the weight after that.

To be effective, you must embark on a permanent lifestyle change that includes a radically different way of eating. I lost 90 pounds and kept it off without having to pay anyone for anything.I read "Eat More, Weigh Less" by Dr. Dean Ornish. Former President Bill Clinton reversed his heart disease and lost 25 pounds by eating the same low-fat whole plant based diet. His was supervised by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. at the Cleveland Clinic.

My advice is to go to the web sites of the following experts to seek help:

Professor Emeritus T. Colin Campbell of Cornell (he wrote "The China Study")
Dr. Neal Barnard ("Food for Life")
Dr. Joel Fuhrman ("Fasting and Eating for Health")
Dr. John McDougall ("The McDougall Plan")
Dr. Dean Ornish ("The Spectrum")
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. ("Forks Over Knives")

The "Whole Plant Based Diet" is the program that is ideal for optimal health and maintaining an ideal weight. It’s a lifestyle change, not a pill or a quick fix. If you are not in it for the long-term, your weight loss will not last.

You can very easily lose 1/2 pound per week if you choose foods carefully and avoid commercially processed food like products. If you choose a medically supervised fast, you can expect to lose about 2 pounds per week of fat (the other weight is water weight and will come back on your body after the fast ends).

Instead of dairy, choose leafy greens containing iron, calcium, and protein. Eat whole grains (brown rice, quinoa) and ligumes (peas, beans, lentils) for additional proteins. Take a B12 and D supplement if you go vegetarian.

Instead of meat, pork, fish, poultry, eggs, or any other form of animal based foods, take the foods listed in the paragraph above and eat ground flax seed for Omega-3 Essential fatty acids. Otherwise, you do not need to eat any form of oil or fat. Even virgin olive oil contains saturated fats which are unhealthy for your cardiovascular system. A gram of fat/oil contains 9 calories and can increase your appetite.

Eat lots of raw and cooked vegetables, and some whole fruits every day. Avoid commercially processed drinks that might contain refined sugar or artificial flavors (aspartame and MSG cause weight gain due to their effect on appetite).

If you want to maintain muscle mass, learn free weight training. A pound of muscle is the energy equivalent to seven pounds of fat. Read about "vegan" body builders and athletes who focus on endurance sports. (Rip Esselstyn wrote an excellent cook book called the "Engine 2 Diet." He and his father were world class athletes.)

You can ignore most health information on commercial media. I have found that it is almost always misleading. Please read the publications of some of the independent experts listed above. Former President Bill Clinton reversed his heart disease and lost 25 pounds by following the advice of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. of the Cleveland Clinic.

You can do this on your own, but if you want an optimal weight loss, I suggest that you follow a medically supervised water fast. Dr. Joel Fuhrman is the world’s leading authority on this. If you can get into one of his programs, that is ideal. Remember, for the diet to be effective you must change your eating habits for life.

What exercise machine is best for cardio/ fat loss?

If possible, one that is cheap. But I don’t want a system or some program I have to sign up for, just a machine I can take into my house and use whenever I want. I have a layer of fat over my stomach and I am trying to achieve abs, so is cardio or fat loss better for losing a layer of bellyfat?

If you want fast results, check out the Fat X Program from www.FatX101.com. It’s awesome at burning off body fat and for getting ripped fast. The workout videos and diet info are free. It worked great for me. Good luck.
