Will this work well to burn fat and lose weight? Are my food choices healthy enough?

Ok, so I’m 16 years old, 5′2" and 130 ish lbs (though about 10 lbs is muscle in my arms and calves). I wanna lose between 10 and 15 lbs….I’m slightly toned, and that’s all I wanna be, I don’t want a muscular body. I have a layer of fat on my stomach that’s covering some abs that I can certainly feel, and I have really fat thighs and a huge bum (39 inches!!!). I wanna get rid of all of this!!! So I know cardio is the most effective way to do this…..so this is what I do for a workout

I actually have two different routines I do, just depending on the day

First off, every weekday, 2 times a day or more I have to watch the house, so instead of sitting around, I get up and do some cardio. I usually do about 4 minutes of butt kicks, and then take a break, and then another few minutes of butt kicks and one minute of oblique twists….so usually between 6 and 10 minutes while I’m watching the house, 2 times a day, at least, it just varies.

My first actual exercise routine is 10 - 15 minutes of stair walking with 2.5 lbs ankle weights on my legs, followed by riding my exercise bike for the same amount of time that I walk on the stairs.

And the other routine is 30 - 60 minutes of DDR. A half hours burns more that 300 calories, so it’s good for toning leg muscle and burning fat and calories.

And my diet consists of cereal, oatmeal, fruits (bananas and apples mostly), green tea, water, beans, reasonable servings of peanut butter, popcorn if I need a light snack (without added butter) sometimes pastas, wheat breads and vegetables. (I don’t eat meat cause I’m a veggie)

So does this sounds effective? Do you think this’ll give me results? And how long will it take for me to see some? Will this burn fat off my huge bum?

dude its easy, squats, get a bar with some weight on it and do squats, that will get rid of the fat on your stomach and for your bum, run go running and hopefully that will get rid of some more fat, and for routine is good, keep doing that.

Does this sound like a good way to burn fat?? And is my choice of foods healthy enough?

It all sounds good. depending how mucha nd what you ate before, eat less day by day until your stomach gets use to eating less then it wont feel hungry anymoreand will get use to the new amount of daily food intake. popcron is a great snack for when you just cant take it and need a snack…I buy the 100 cal packs they actaully have alot of popcorn in it and comes in different yummy flavors…fruit and veggies have almost no cals so eat plenty of them…stay hydrated with water. squats and lounges will help the thighs and butt

Can you have abs under fat?

I do up to 100 sit ups a day, and bike about 15 miles a week, and run one mile a week, I have some belly fat but but i am 5 foot 10 and have a normal bmi, but i do have some fat, is it possible that I have abs under fat? What are some exercises that can burn belly fat, or some foods?

yes, u have them…. im guessing u probably want to show them…. and its pretty easy, u have to get in shape… just doing sit up doesnt help, its not going to magically get rid of your belly fat… Your going to have to watch what your eating…. lean meats like chicken and turkey.. Cut off from soda or highs sugar drinks like gaterade. your probably want to increase your cardio as well…. id run a little more than a mile, like 2 or 3 every other day… then you will be able to see your abs…

Can you tell me about the biology behind burning fat, and how to effectively tone abs?

What are the foods that are best for toning? Specific exercises (other than crunches and sit-ups, of course)? I’ve also heard that working out first thing in the morning immediately burns fat - is that true? Any other things I should know? Thanks. :)

Btw, I’m 15 and have been studying a lot lately, so my tummy area is pudgy. No love handles or anything, but it’s not flat anymore.

1) Specific foods don’t automatically signal our bodies to start burning fat. However, there is a way to eat that will force our body to use our stored fat as fuel. It’s basic human metabolism. Our body prefers to use glucose as fuel. Glucose is what carbs turn into after digestion. If our body has glucose in our system it use it as fuel and not touch our stored fat. In fact our body has a preference of substrates to use as fuel: 1) alcohol 2) glucose (carbs) 3) protein (our muscles) 4) fat. As you can see our body fat is LAST on the list and this is why it’s so hard for people to lose. So we have to fool our body into using our fat as fuel. We do this by removing alcohol from our diet. Lets hope you don’t drink alcohol at 15 lol. Then we remove carbs from our diet too. Now at this point our body will then convert our stored protein (our muscles) into glucose. This is how we "lose muscle" during a diet. NOT cool. The actual scientific name to this process is "gluconeogenesis". We prevent this by feeding our body adequate proteins and fats. Protein and fats are the building blocks of muscle. If our body senses all this protein and fats it will determine that its too much trouble to covert the muscles and then go to the next substrate on the list……OUR BODY FAT! perfect! Bingo!

Specific exercises don’t burn fat. Our diet does. Certain type of cardio does. You do ab exercises to build the muscles under the fat.

Working out first thing in the morning will burn fat IF it is low intensity. Low intensity is defined as keeping our heart rate between 120-130 beats per minute. High intensity is anything above 130 beats per minute. See, if the exercise is high intensity our body uses glucose to fuel it. And if you are eating in the manner which will fool your body to use your stored fat, then there is no glucose in your system. Remember, glucose is what carbs turn into after digestion. So low intensity cardio on an empty stomach will burn fat. Not high intensity cardio or even weight lifting on an empty stomach. That too is considered high intensity.

So the foods you have to use to fool your body into using your stored fat are these:

Protein sources: eggs, tuna, chicken, steak (once per day), salmon, talapia (or any fish), shrimp, crab, turkey, whey protein powder

Fat sources: almonds, cashews, all natural peanut butter, avacado (be carefuel, they have a lot of carbs), extra virgin olive oil, fish oil capsules, evening primrose oil capsules

Carb souces: only GREEN veggies.

Hope I’ve helped you understand better.

[Fitness/Health Experts answer please] What are the foods that burn body fat?

I am 15 years old and right now I weigh 143 and I want to get to my goal weight 115. I know that’s a dramatic change but I checked online what a healthy weight was for my height [67 inches] and it said that a healthy weight range for me was 104 lbs. to 153 lbs. I just really want to get to my goal weight REALLY bad. Can you give me all the foods that burn body fat and what exercise I should be getting everyday?

The only food I know of that consumes more energy to digest than is provided is celery.

My physician explained it like this:

Weight change is a function of calories eaten minus calories burned.

However, this is not the complete story. Your body has evolved over tens of thousands of years to handle periods of feast and famine. Today, the only periods of famine for most people is when they go on a diet. Your body believes that it is in a period of famine and will slow down the rate at which you burn calories (starvation mode). If your body does not get at least 10 times your ideal weight in pounds in calories:

Example: Ideal weight is 120 pounds, your minimum daily calories will be 1200. Don’t eat less!

If you don’t eat enough calories, your body will try to maintain body fat and it will also trigger irresistible urges to eat high caloric foods (sugar, fat, refined carbohydrates). That’s why people have binges after being good about their calorie intake for a few months. They end up putting on weight during the periods of feast as your body has been programmed to do.

The answer to your question is to follow a low-fat pure vegetarian diet as described by Dr. Dean Ornish. You’ll need to have a balance of legumes, whole grains, leafy green vegetables, colorful vegetables, whole fruits, some nuts, some Omega-3 fatty acids, and B12. Get out in the sun each day for about 10 minutes. Your skin needs this to process vitamin D.

Once you are on a healthy diet for a few weeks, I’d talk to your doctor about how to get on an aerobic exercise program. After a few weeks of being on these programs, I’d look at a free weight program to build muscle mass. If you start eating extra calories, some people put on 7 pounds of fat without much effort. If you eat to excess and are building lean muscle, you will add only 1 pound of muscle weight. Muscle takes a lot more calories to burn.

By all means avoid convenience foods, over processed foods, sugars, fats, too much salt. Aspartame and MSG are neurotoxins that will cause your brain chemistry to change. You will add weight and feel a bit fuzzy if you eat or drink these substances. Avoid soda. If you are by any chance taking medications, please be careful. Statins, for instance, can cause very serious neurological side effects once you reduce the cholesterol in your diet through a healthy pure vegetarian diet. (Drug companies admit to these serious side effects in 1-2% of statin drug user, but others claim it’s closer to 50%.)

If you are on medication, please be very careful and do your homework, especially if you cut fats or otherwise improve your diet.

How To Lose Body Fat?

I am 15 years old, I weigh 180, and i think my height is 5′11. I want to lose body fat but what exercises do I do so that i can burn it off. I want to lose most of the fat thats on my belly and my pecks/chest. What foods should I stop eating that adds more fat to my pecks and my belly? HELP

Cardio, weight training or home training such as push ups and something like that :)

Recommended cardio exercises (gym AND home)/diet for burning fat? And any extra advice?

Hey there everybody, I’m wanting to lose some fat. I’m 15, 122lbs (have been that way since I was 12), and I have an even layer of fat all over my body. I need to know what kind of foods to eat, what kind of exercises to do, and anything else that might help me lose some fat. My reason, mainly, is to try and look better by summer. You know, at the pool, all that. :) Looking for NATURAL help, not pills. Seriously, people, I’m 15.

Eat healthy foods and use portion control to avoid over eating, over eating causes weight gain and it is very easy to over eat. Learn proper portion sizes, weigh and measure in the beginning until you are able to eye ball it in the future.

Cardio exercise will burn fat but you have to do at least 40 minutes of cardio exercise.

Weight training is also extremely important, it increases muscle mass which in turn increases your metabolism so you will burn the food you eat instead of storing it as body fat.

1 Dietary Balance and reading labels: watch what you eat, and expend more energy than you consume. It’s really that simple. This involves some calculation. Eat less and eat at least five meals a day. Your actual caloric requirement can differ depending on your height, weight, activity level and your body’s metabolic rate.

2 Identify your exercise. No exercise was created equal. You might like running, so run. You might like jogging, so jog. You might like stationary bikes, so bike stationary. Find the one that works best for you. Don’t pick a routine that you don’t like and won’t stick with it for long.

3 Try yoga. Yoga is one of the best ways of losing weight. Of course I can’t go into a full lecture about yoga over here but I can tell you that I have never seen people with better-toned bodies than those who practice yoga. One of the benefits of yoga is that you learn to control virtually every muscle and joint of your body so that the issue of weight gain will cease to exist.

4 Photos and Joining online support group : Take before and after photos. There’s no easier way to illustrate your progress. It’s essential that you not feel alone, and reaching out to friends helps as they know things that you couldn’t possibly know, and they’ve probably been “in your shoes” at some point in the past (or present). Share stories, laughter, tears, successes, and failures. There are thousands of communities out there, so keep looking until you find one that fits you.

5 Water you waiting for If you’re not drinking enough water, your body will let you know. Thirst is an amazing sensation – quench it. If you’re not hydrated, your body won’t be working at peak levels. If you’re worried about “water weight,” remember that you’re likely to retain more water when you’re not giving your body enough of it in the first place. I’m not going to dictate how many glasses you should drink, though – as that’s going to vary from person to person.

6 Zone out. There’s a reason why people exercise to their favorite music – listening to external stimulus takes your mind off of the physical activity making “exercise time” fly or situate yourself in front of TV or video games involving exercises.

7 Dance Out Do Salsa, tango, swing ,hip-hop dancing etc. Anyone can do it,keep in mind you are dancing to increase your physical activity, so there is no pressure on how well you perform dance. Who knows you might even learn a cool dance move or two

8 Sleep it off. To be an efficient fat-burning machine, If you think that you’re doing yourself a favor by sleeping less, you’re mistaken. Give your body time to rest itself, both mentally and physically. Sleep is very, very important.

9 Keep a food diary. All you have to do is jot down what, when, and how much you eat in a notebook, or you can do it online at a Web site . A food diary gives a clear picture of your current eating habits so you can identify the changes you need to make to lose weight.

10 Be motivated. You need to believe in yourself!. Learn to evaluate your efforts fairly and objectively. When you have thought of giving up, visualize how good you will look when you manage to slim down successfully.

Walking is great for burning off belly fat. Do sit-ups. Push-ups.

Make sure to eat whole grain foods. You want to eat complex carbs.

Also, pretend like you hulaing, like with a hula hupe. Do it in each direction for 10 minutes. I’ve been doing with for a couple months now, and I’m starting to see a 4 pack… working on getting that lower two to show.
