Why am I building muscle without burning fat?

So I started working out regularly (strenght + cardio). The weight lifting (about 3-4 times per week every other day, for thirty minutes per session) is starting to show slight results (it’s been about a month and one week since i started). My muscles, especially those in my legs, are noticeably more toned up. BUT i have not lost any significant amount of fat. Now i feel bulkier than before.

I do about 30 mins of cardio 6 days a week, too, and on the days of my weight training. I warm up, do the weights, and then do the cardio *after the weights. I eat 5 or 6 small meals per day. Im not eating any different than before i started, i think, except for adding more protein and cutting back on unhealthy foods. So im really at a loss about how long before i can expect to see some of the fat disappear. I’d like to lose ten or 15 pounds–eventually. Im a 25 year old woman, 5′5, 142 pounds.

My question(s): from this description, is there any glaring errors in my workout routine? Is a 30 to 60 minute workout 6 days per week (as strength + cardio) enough? Am i too soon into my workout to see any huge changes? I think i still eat more calories than i burn, so maybe that is a factor here, but i’d like to know if anything else is going on. Any help or suggestions are welcome, please! :)

  2. sometimes when you tone muscle you dont lose weight or fat, it just shifts. You could stay the same weight and have very toned muscles and look slimmer, its completely normal :)
