Is eating fat okay if you are exercising?
Posted on July 31st, 2009 by admin
I exercise all the time by lifting weights, playing tennis, or running. I run from 15-20 miles a week. I’m definitely not the healthiest eater and I was wondering if fat (saturated too) is okay to be in your food if you exercise. Does working out burn it off?
You need fat! 20-30% of your daily calories should come from fat!
Some saturated fat is OK, but not too much.

Well I’m not a doctor or anything but by the way I see it eating fat then exercising just gets rid of the fat you just ate and not much else… I bet I’m wrong though lol.

Well, you certainly won’t get all of the effects from eating it that you would if you weren’t working out, but it is still unhealthy. Try to limit your intake of it.

You absolutely need fat in your diet but eating too much of it is really unhealthy. My suggestion is watch your fat intake and cut down if you think its too much.

If your trying to look for results such as muscle and a six back, then no. Cut all the fat foods, start eating healthy food such as fruits, veggies and meat. Also cut down on all soda drinks start drinking alot more water while you work out.

Saturated fat is never good for you, exercise or no exercise. Saturated fat contributes to health problems such as high blood pressure and blocked arteries, which you can suffer from even if you are fit.
Saying that some fats are good fats, like the fats that are in nuts or avacados. But not too much, everything in moderation is the key to a healthy lifestyle.

just make sure you are burning more calories then you typically take in then you should be ok…but you should stil be careful as far as what you eat because it can catch up with you later in life when it’s not going to be so easy to burn off the weight.

it appears to me that u do not perform exercise in an organised manner. further 20 miles a week is not enough if u r not more than 40 yrs. eat as much fat as u can burn with ur exercise if u dont want to gain wt.

Saturated fat should only be from vegetable sources such as olives, etc. You want to try to eat unsaturated fats, such as peanut butter.
Your body burns protein, not fat.

well ya it is okay so ya as long as you are working it off

fat is okay if you are exercising enough to use it up.
if you look at what micheal phelps eats.
his diet contains lots of fats and doesn’t even look all that healthy.
he swims about 7miles a day and is very lean so working out enough will burn fat up.

When I was living the tropics most people ate a high fat, high starch and high salt diet with very few people getting heart disease. The heat took care of the salt and the amount of exercise they did through work took care of the fat and starch in their diet.
Animal fat is ok in reasonable amounts as long as you eat healthy fats as well like virgin olive oil. It’s the trans fats in products like Crisco and processed foods that are the real hazard. Trans fats are not readily broken down by the body and end up as plaque in the arteries.
When I was doing sports, I found I could eat anything and never gain a pound, if you are running that much you should be fine regardless.
