I’m 15 years old and need a good, quick, fat burning work out!?

My situation: my family, who is filled with athletic people, say that I don’t have a bad diet. I only eat when I’m hungry. My favorite food groups are breads and meats. Because I’m not fond of fruits, berries, and vegetables, I take Juice Plus (a completely organic vitamin that gives you all the servings of fruits, berries, and vegetables that you need in a day). I don’t eat a lot of junk food, only once in a while. I don’t like many condiments on my food, so butter on toast, dressing on salad, etc isn’t a problem (because I know that they are usually bad for your diet).

I work hard in academics, and I know that when school starts I’m not going to have time to spend a lot of time exercising.

Now, I’m perfectly happy with the fat content on my butt, legs, arms, etc. But, when it comes to my belly, it’s quite a problem. It’s like just a big blob of fat, as if I had a pot-belly or I was pregnant, but mini version. It’s very embarrassing so I suck in my stomach all day. I’ve done that for so long that it’s almost second nature, but yet my stomach is still unattractive. I’m very self-conscious about wearing a bikini, and I don’t want to have to worry about sucking in my stomach anymore.

All in all, I need a stomach fat burning work out that I will be able to do despite my busy schedule when school starts and, if possible, will work fast. If you tell me everything I need to do, I promise I will do it every day possible.

P. S. I don’t have any work out equipment, and because I live in hell-hot Vegas, I would like to be able to do this inside.

Not a problem.

But you do still have to watch what you eat - bread has lots of calories which translates into fat. And you do need some more fiber which you are not going to get in Juice Plus.

The best way (and only way) to lose fat is by aerobic exercises such as running, jumping rope, using an exercycle or elliptical. You cannot lose fat in one area by working only that part of the body — this is call targeted exercises or spot reduction and it does NOT work. Being that you live in L.V., see if you can find a shaded area and do rope jumping for about 5 minutes straight. If no shaded area, then try fast walking at an indoor mall — you will need to walk about 1.5 to 2 miles.

The resistance training such as using weights are for toning and shaping the muscles. They do very little for fat removal. Here are a couple of websites with exercises that you can do without gym equipment - it uses only your body weight -

One last thing, it is good that you take academics so seriously. But to be at your best, you have to be at your best mentally AND physically. You are not just a brain and you are not just a body. You are both and you cannot ignore one and expect to be at your best. Make time even when school starts. I think you will find that your mind will be able to do more when your body is fit.

  1. I know some people who use this thing called a "Baboosh" and you wrap it around your tummy. When you work out I guess you sweat more and you can lose inches faster. A person I know who uses one lost like 3 inches in a month. Also, I take zumba dance classes and they’re REALLY good cardio/aerobic workout (and super fun!). Hope this helps and good luck!

For zumba, make sure it’s a really fun/energetic teacher though.

  3. I know you want workout ideas, but fat loss is almost entirely dependent on what you eat not how many miles you are willing to run. You assume your diet is healthy, but if your family is naturally fit, it’s safe to say your genetics aren’t the problem. The diet concept of calorie restriction and continuous strenuous exercise is also completely false. Most of the calories a healthy person consumes should come from proteins and fats. Carbohydrates from refined grains, or any grains for that matter, are turned into blood sugar. Carbs from actual sugars are also turned into blood sugar..obviously. Try not to eat those or just not very much of it. Those foods trigger hormones that tell your body to store fat. Over time excess blood sugar spikes will diminish your body’s ability to produce the proper amounts of hormone to regulate. Eat lots calories from whole foods, including lots of meat and other things that actually grow (nuts, fruits, vegetables, etc)., cut out the bread, sodas, cereal, etc., and you will drop the fat. Whatever you do don’t go on a calorie restricted diet. Exercise doing something you enjoy. Just remember that if you’re gaining fat weight it’s because of what you’re eating.
